On the morning of July 13, 2026, Mr. Le Cong Ly, Standing Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee, along with leaders of municipal departments and agencies, hosted a working session with Dragon Gold Company Limited. The meeting focused on investment opportunities in the Tran De Port project, the development orientation for high-tech agriculture, and other key projects in the region.

General view of the working session
Can Tho Possesses Numerous Strengths in Regional Connectivity
At the meeting, Mr. Le Cong Ly, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, introduced the city’s investment potential and opportunities following the merger. Can Tho City is a centrally-governed Class I urban area, playing a central role as a driving force and gateway to the lower Mekong River region, a hub for road, waterway, and air transport, connecting the region internally, inter-regionally, and internationally. With its position as the financial, commercial, medical, and science-technology center of the region, the city aims to become a modern, ecological growth pole by 2030, with a vision toward 2050 of joining the group of well-developed cities in Asia. It is envisioned as the nucleus city and core growth engine of the Mekong Delta. Following the merger, Can Tho has acquired a comprehensive strategic position: a multi-sectoral urban, industrial, and service center, and the gateway to the East Sea for the entire region. This location creates a radial economic development axis, connecting agricultural production centers and processing industries with deep-water seaport clusters and the national logistics network.
Tran De Port – A “Gateway to the Sea” Valued at Approximately USD 2.2 Billion
Providing information on the project of interest to the investor, Mr. Vo Cong Khanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Finance, presented detailed insights into the Tran De Port project and several other key projects, including the high-tech agriculture zone in Vinh Vien Commune.
According to Mr. Vo Cong Khanh, Tran De Port is planned to be the international gateway port of the Mekong Delta, located at the Hau River estuary and approximately 85 km from the center of Can Tho. The project has an estimated total investment of about VND 58,000 billion (approximately USD 2.2 billion), designed with 2 to 4 berths spanning a total length of 800m – 1,600m. The port is capable of accommodating container ships of up to 100,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage) and bulk carriers of up to 160,000 DWT, with an annual capacity of 24.6 – 32.5 million tons, aiming to commence construction before 2030.
Once operational, goods and agricultural-aquatic products from the Mekong Delta can be exported directly overseas without having to detour to ports in Ho Chi Minh City, shortening the transport distance by 200 – 300 km and saving enterprises 10% – 15% in transportation costs.
Synchronized Transport Infrastructure Ready for Connection
To further clarify the connectivity of Tran De Port, Mr. Le Tien Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, outlined the comprehensive transport network surrounding the Tran De Port project and the Vinh Vien high-tech agriculture zone.
Mr. Le Tien Dung stated that Tran De Port is planned in conjunction with the region’s synchronized transport infrastructure development strategy. Specifically, this includes key expressways such as Can Tho – Hau Giang – Soc Trang, Can Tho – Ca Mau, Chau Doc – Can Tho – Soc Trang, Tra Vinh – Soc Trang, Ha Tien – Rach Gia – Bac Lieu, and National Highway 91B. Notably, the Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho – Ca Mau railway is also oriented to be extended directly to Tran De Port in the post-2030 period. This network facilitates linkages with international maritime routes, expanding direct connections from the port to Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and globally.
During the meeting, the representative of Dragon Gold Company Limited also shared insights into the enterprise’s operational capacity and core strengths, while expressing significant interest in infrastructure and high-tech agriculture projects in the area.
