On the morning of August 7, 2026, Can Tho City departments and agencies hosted a working session with a delegation from the Altai Region (Russian Federation), led by Mr. Aleksei Erokhin, Deputy Director of the Altai Region Department of Economic Development. Representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Finance, and CPA also attended the meeting. The two sides reviewed the results of their cooperation in investment, trade, and friendly exchanges to date, and discussed the draft content of a future cooperation agreement between the two localities.
According to aggregated data, there are currently no ODA, FDI, or NGO projects from the Russian Federation in Can Tho City. In 2025, the city’s export turnover to the Russian market reached 1.62 million USD, with veterinary medicines being the primary export product; no import turnover from this market was recorded.
Over the years, Can Tho has carried out numerous investment and trade promotion activities with Russian partners. Notably, in 2019, Can Tho city organized the Can Tho – Russian Federation Investment and Trade Promotion Conference at the Hanoi-Moscow Multifunctional Complex, showcasing the city’s potential, strengths, and investment environment while facilitating business connections. The event saw the signing of four memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between enterprises from both sides across sectors such as logistics, infrastructure construction, seafood farming and processing, and the distribution of agricultural and other products with export potential to the Russian market.
Ms. Ho Thi Thanh Bach, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, delivered a welcome address to the delegation from the Altai region visiting and working in Can Tho City. She provided an overview of the city’s potential and strengths, as well as recent external relations activities between the two localities, highlighting the city’s commitment to strengthening friendships and cooperation with foreign localities, organizations, and partners to expand collaboration across various sectors. Can Tho City wishes to further promote cooperation with the Altai region by leveraging the respective potentials, strengths, and collaborative needs of both sides. She also proposed that the two parties explore the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to serve as a foundation for increasing delegation exchanges, sharing information, and implementing specific cooperative activities in the near future.
